Victorian Sleeves

Hey You,

Welcome back to my blog!

If you could take a time machine to travel back to the 18th century and put on a top that adds a feminine touch to your ensemble and makes your waist look smaller, would you do that? Yes, let’s take a step back in time when Queen Victoria reigned and people followed her fashion, especially, the timeless Victorian sleeve style.

We all know that fashion is cyclic, and the trends keep coming back after years. However, the elegance and sartorial decadence of 19th century fashion has been special and this time it pours out through these statement bulbous sleeves, aka mutton sleeves. Oversized Victorian sleeves is one fabulous fashionable touch that will instantly make any outfit look more feminine. Trust me they are never leaving the trend cycle and are a hot trend now.

The dramatic, statement sleeves give us a sense of both romanticism and strength. If you have been shopping recently, then you might have realized that there are many brands offering this style, which I think is really gorgeous and wearable. The point is to show them! These kinds of dresses and blouses are specifically beautiful in white as they really remind me of the past, with the lingerie vibe and Victorian style. They can be bolder if you want. Just try and find the ones with some voile, lace, or sheer details!

Here is how I embraced the Victorian Sleeve trend-

I styled this gorgeous white Victorian sleeve dress with some pearl bracelets and white chunky heels. This dress has the perfect floral summer vibe you want and you can wear this for brunch or a casual evening catch-up with your friends.

You can find a similar dress at ASOS and the platform heels at Steve Madden.

Another reason to don the puffy oversized fashion is its versatility. The look works with short or long sleeves. Either wear a short poof at the shoulder or make the style your own by embracing the oversized sleeve for endless options.

I am going to say that the rule here is: the bigger, the better! The deep V-neck dress would highlight your silhouette and define your waist. If you are looking for blouses, then these sleeves are super empowering and sexy, a little bit edgy, so they add an amazing touch to a simple pair of jeans, some high waisted pants or a beautiful pair of summer shorts.

These Victorian-inspired sleeves are a fast and sure way to make a statement. Feel free to choose black or gray as it suits just about anything and can give the impression of royalty or create a gothic look. During the summer, go for lighter shades that will help keep you feeling and looking cool. When fall rolls around, don the warm colors of autumn. Of course, winter brings plenty of choices from wintry blends to holiday sparkles.

Do give this trend a try! If you are not comfortable wearing the V-neck dress, swap it for a straight neck or boat neck blouse with oversized extended sleeves. This trend is for all silhouettes but specially for those of you who absolutely adore the slim waist effect.

And as I always say, feel free to dress up or down with accessories and don’t forget to have fun.

Here’s the tip for the week-

Tip #9: The Victorian sleeves are a fast and sure way to make a statement. A safe bet is to opt for neutral colors that work well any time of year or adjust the tone to suit the season. Choose black or gray for gothic look, lighter shades for the summer and don’t hesitate to don the warm colors of autumn during the fall.
